Responsible for overall operation of non-profit substance abuse and mental health agency consisting of 2 detox programs, 2 residential programs, 3 day treatment programs, 14 outpatient programs, 1 halfway house program, 1 3/4 way house program, and administrative offices. As of 1995, Insight employs a staff of 250 with a budget of $14 million (counting subsidiaries). It has 16 offices throughout Eastern and Central Michigan. Immediately after college, I started work as a vocational counselor for five years for the State of Michigan, holding several positions in both the Department of Labor and in Vocational Rehabilitation Services. I then worked as an assistant executive director and administrator for two different substance abuse and mental health treatment agencies for three years. I then accepted a position as the Department Head for the Substance Abuse Services Program at Hurley Medical Center, a position that I held for three years. I left Hurley to accept the position of President of Insight Recovery Center (see above).
